The Brown Bag program distributes bags of groceries to low income senior citizens, 60 years and older twice a month. Supported by State General Funds and donations from members of the community, the program gives surplus, unsold foods and donated fresh vegetables, mixed canned goods, breads and fruits to help supplement seniors’ groceries.

Senior citizens interested in receiving groceries may visit the site in their area and apply for a Brown Bag Card. For further information on qualifications, please call (209) 577-3600.

Other senior programs:

The Red Shield Center at 1649 Las Vegas St, Modesto is open for activities for senior citizens, Monday through Friday, 9 - 12:30 p.m.

The annual membership fee for persons 60 and over is $9.00. Daily admission is free with a current membership. Activities include Bible study, games, crafts, movies and trips. Lunch is also included. For more information, call 538-7111.
