ADULT DAY CARE AND RESOURCE CENTER

Miller’s Place
...a peaceful spot to relax

Miller’s Place offers respite for those who take care of loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease and related forms of dementia, and provides pleasurable experiences for those suffering from such problems. A resource center is available to caregivers, health care professionals and those preparing for careers in related areas of health care.

Recreational and Social Activities: Socialization and interaction with peers ranges from group exercise to educational discussions, addressing current events, and viewing audiovisual presentations. Special programs include musical demonstrations, holiday festivities, and barbeques.

Resource Center: Our library of books, videotapes, and other resources is open to everyone. We can provide information on subjects from legislative issues to home care tips.

Support Groups: Caregivers can benefit immensely from interaction with others who are in similar situations. Miller’s Place sponsors support groups for those giving care to sufferers of Alzheimer’s disease and comparable problems.

Caring For Our Guests: Miller’s Place’s professional staff is experienced in recreational therapy and elder care. Their aim is to provide a safe, secure environment in which guests enjoy happy moments.

Guests at Miller’s Place participate in many activities such as balloon volleyball, which provides needed physical exercise as well as fun and laughter. Each guest participates at his or her own level in creative crafts such as making birdhouses or paper flowers, or painting with water colors.

Social interaction is a valuable benefit for Miller’s Place guests. A very popular activity is "happy hour," at which guests enjoy sparkling cider and visit as they might have done at a party in earlier times. Music plays an important role in many of our functions. We often take walks and plan outdoor activities when weather permits.

Lunch is catered each day but, our morning and afternoon snacks are often prepared by the guests as a group activity. Making ice cream in an old-fashioned crank freezer or baking cookies is great fun and usually stimulates reminiscences.

Costs: Affordable private rates are arranged on a sliding scale basis.

Transportation: Transportation to and from Miller’s Place can be by private vehicle, Dial-a-Ride, or the Miller’s Place van. Both the Dial-a-Ride and the Miller’s Place van can accommodate wheelchairs.

Location: We are located in Central Modesto at 1732-A Miller Avenue. We use space in the back buildings of the Calvary Baptist Church. Our hours are 8:30-4:30, Monday through Friday.
